An independent guide to help citizens of West Bengal understand and use the official BanglarBhumi land records portal. We explain complicated government processes in plain, simple language.
BanglarBhumi (banglarbhumi.gov.in) is West Bengal's official land records portal. It is a genuinely useful service — you can check Khatian records, track mutation status, download e-Porcha, and pay Khajna online without visiting any government office.
But for many people, especially those who are not familiar with land record terminology or government portal navigation, the official website can be difficult to use. Terms like RS-LR, Sabek Dag, Hal Dag, Mouza, and GRN are not explained anywhere on the portal itself. Error messages give no guidance. And finding the right service among dozens of menu items takes time that most people — farmers, elderly landowners, first-time property buyers — simply do not have.
banglaarbhumi.in was created to fill that gap. We write clear, step-by-step guides for every service on the official portal so that anyone — regardless of their technical or legal background — can understand what to do, what to expect, and where to go for official help.
We get asked about the name. Here is the honest explanation.
The word "BanglarBhumi" literally means "land of Bengal" in Bengali — it is a descriptive phrase that perfectly describes what this website covers: land records in Bengal (West Bengal). That is the reason we chose it as our domain name.
The domain banglaarbhumi.in (with double 'a' — banglaarbhumi) is a distinct, privately registered domain name. It is completely separate from the Government of West Bengal's official portal, which operates at banglarbhumi.gov.in (a .gov.in domain that only government bodies can register).
The .gov.in domain extension in India is exclusively reserved for and issued only to verified government organisations by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Private individuals and companies cannot register a .gov.in domain. The fact that our domain is .in — not .gov.in — makes it clear to any reasonable person that this is a private website, not an official government resource.
We chose the .in domain extension because this website is specifically for people in India, particularly citizens of West Bengal, and .in is India's country-code top-level domain.
We want to be completely transparent about this so there is no confusion.

For all official land record services — Khatian search, mutation applications, e-Porcha downloads, Khajna payments — use the official government portal at banglarbhumi.gov.in.
Every guide on banglaarbhumi.in is written based on direct observation of the official BanglarBhumi portal, publicly available government notifications, and information published by the West Bengal government. We do not copy content from the government portal.
We write in simple English — at a level that anyone who finished school can understand. We avoid legal and bureaucratic jargon wherever possible. When we must use official terms like "Khatian", "Dag number", or "RS-LR", we explain exactly what they mean.
We review our guides regularly and update them when the official portal changes its procedures, introduces new features, or when the government revises rates and rules. We display the last-updated date on each guide so you always know how recent the information is.
banglaarbhumi.in covers every major service available on the BanglarBhumi portal, explained in plain language:
